This chapter tells us about Jumman’s old aunt who owned some property. She transferred this property to Jumman believing that she would stay with him and he would look after her. After taking care of the aunt for a couple of years, Jumman’s family got tired of this relative. Jumman and his wife became indifferent to her and insulted her every day.

The aunt realized that she was no longer wanted at their house. She stayed patient for a few months and did not say anything. Finally, one day, she told Jumman that she was well aware about how unwanted she was at his house. As a solution, she suggested that Jumman should give her a monthly allowance so that she could set up her own kitchen.

Jumman got angry and said that there was no need for that. He said that his wife knew best how to run the house, and therefore, rejected his aunt’s suggestion. At this, his aunt got angry and decided to take the matter to the village panchayat.
