Hint: A seismograph, or seismometer, is an instrument used to detect and record earthquakes.

Complete step by step answer:

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or tremblor) is the shaking of the surface of the Earth resulting from a sudden release of energy in the Earth's lithosphere that creates seismic waves. A seismograph, or seismometer, is an instrument used to detect and record earthquakes. Generally, it consists of a mass attached to a fixed base. During an earthquake, the base moves and the mass does not. The motion of the base with respect to the mass is commonly transformed into an electrical voltage. The electrical voltage is recorded on paper, magnetic tape, or another recording medium. This record is proportional to the motion of the seismometer mass relative to the earth, but it can be mathematically converted to a record of the absolute motion of the ground. Seismograph generally refers to the seismometer and its recording device as a single unit. They are installed in the ground throughout the world and operated as part of a seismographic network. The first seismometer was made in China during the 2nd century. The first Western description of the device comes from the French physicist and priest Jean de Hautefeuille in 1703. The modern seismometer was developed in the 19th century. seismographs are equipped with electromagnetic sensors that translate ground motions into electrical changes, which are processed and recorded by the instruments’ analog or digital circuits. Although originally designed to locate natural earthquakes, seismographs have many other uses, such as petroleum exploration, investigation of Earth’s crust and lower layers, and monitoring of volcanic activity.
So, the correct answer is B , seismograph.

Note: Students might get confused between Seismograph, Quake graph and Quake meter.
It must be noted that a quake graph is the graph where the range of the earthquake is plotted whereas seismograph is the instrument used to measure earthquakes.
