Hint: The biologically fertile and highly threatened region is referred to as a biodiversity hotspot. The concept of the biodiversity hotspot was established by Norman Myers. The various ecosystems hosted by the biodiversity hotspot is 2.4% of the planet's surface.

Complete answer: The biogeographic region which is known to be as an important reservoir of biodiversity is termed as a biodiversity hotspot. It is threatened by the loss of habitat. There are approximately 25 rich areas around the world that come under biodiversity hotspots. In India, a total of 8 floristic regions are there: Eastern Himalayas, Western Himalayas, Indus plain, Ganga plain, Deccan region, Malabar region, Maldives and Burma. Two of the following are explained below;
a) Eastern Himalayas is termed as the location of biodiversity hotspots which are very rich in diversity and endemism. The regions that are included in this area are Nepal, Bhutan, Arunachal Pradesh, and Burma.
b) Western Himalayas or the Western Ghats is termed as the global biodiversity hotspot. The regions that are included in this area are Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala. In India, hotspots include 5584 indigenous plant species, out of which, 2242 are endemic. In the Western Ghats, the species of invertebrates are also present, such as ant species, butterfly species, land snail species, etc.
Hence, the correct answer is option D.

Note: Biodiversity is termed as the variety and the variability of life on earth, and the biodiversity has typical variations in the measure of the field of genetics, species, ecosystem levels. The biodiversity of land is near the equator, which is due to a warm climate and high productivity.
