Hint: Breeding of animals is an important aspect of animal husbandry. Animal breeding aims at animals and improving the desirable qualities of the produce. The main objectives of animal breeding are Improved growth rate, Increased production of milk, meat, egg, wool, etc., The most preferable quality of milk, meat, eggs, wool, etc.
Complete answer:
There are two methods of animal breeding namely inbreeding and outbreeding.
Now let us have some information about inbreeding:-
Inbreeding refers to the mating of more closely related individuals within the same breed for 4-6 generations. The breeding strategy is as follows superior males and superior females of the same breed are identified and mated in pairs. The progeny obtained from such mattings are evaluated and superior males and females that occur between them are identified for further mating. A superior female, in the case of cattle, is a cow or buffalo that produces more milk per lactation. When we look towards the other side, a superior male is a bull, which gives superior progeny as compared to other males. Inbreeding increases homozygosity. The very sure reason that makes inbreeding is if we want to evolve pureline in any animal. Inbreeding exposes harmful recessive traits that are eliminated by the selection process.
It also helps in accumulation of superior and elimination of less desirable genes. Therefore, this approach, where there is selection at each step, increases the productivity of the inbred population. However, continued inbreeding, especially close inbreeding, usually reduces fertility and even productivity. This is called inbreeding depression.
Now let us match this with given option :-
> Self pollinated crop :- inbreeding usually occurs between the group of similar individuals that are closely related so when pollen grains are transferred from another to stigma of the same plant it occurs between similar individuals so inbreeding depression occurs.
> Cross pollinated crop :- during cross pollination the pollen grains are transferred to stigma of any other plant so they are not closely related and are not of the same species as a result inbreeding do not take place.
> Vegetatively propagated crop :- during vegetative propagation the desired characters are mated . These may or may not be of the same species . This occurs in plants which have lost their ability to produce seeds.
Our required option is A. self pollinated crops.
Note:
Whenever this inbreeding becomes a problem, and inbreeding depression occurs selected animals of the breeding population should be mated with unrelated superior animals of the same breed. This usually helps restore fertility and yield.
