Hint: Africa is one of the seven continents of the Earth. The Northern hemisphere contains two-thirds of Northern Africa and the rest one-third lies in the southern hemisphere of the earth.

Complete Answer: Desert is an arid region which has extremely high or low temperatures and has scarce vegetation. Depending on the temperature the deserts can be classified into two types i.e., the hot deserts and the cold deserts. The Sahara is a hot desert. It is the world’s largest desert with an area approximately equal to 8.54 million sq. kilometers and covers a large part of North Africa. Algeria, Chad, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Sudan, Tunisia, and Western Sahara are the eleven countries covered by the Sahara Desert. So, the Sahara Desert is situated in the Northern part of Africa. The rocky surfaces of this desert may be more than 2500m high in some places. Scorching hot and parch dry are the climatic conditions of the Sahara Desert. It has a short rainy season. The temperatures during the day soar really high. The Sahara Desert also has vegetation which includes cactus, date, palms, and acacia. In some places there are oases and the green islands with date palms surround them. The prominent animal species living here are camels, hyenas, jackals, foxes, scorpions, and many varieties of snakes and lizards.

Thus, option (A) is correct.

Note:Sahara once used to be a lush green plain. Sahara desert’s cave paintings show that there used to be rivers with crocodiles. Animals like elephants, lions, giraffes, ostriches, sheep, cattle, and goats used to be found in the majority earlier but the climate has changed it to a very hot and dry region.
