The female reproductive system consists of the vagina, uterus, cervix, fallopian tube, and ovaries. The ovaries produce the ovum or oocyte which is transported through the fallopian tube to the uterus. In the fallopian tube, fertilization occurs by the sperm (male reproductive cell). After the fertilization, the ovum is embedded into the endometrium layer of the uterine wall.
This movement from the ovary to the uterus through the fallopian tube occurs under the influence of the cilia present in the ciliary cells on the outer lining of the uterus and fallopian tube. The cilia move rapidly at the time of ovulation due to the higher concentration of estrogen. ciliary cells are dense in the region of the infundibulum and ampulla of the fallopian tube. Estrogen also increases the formation of cilia on these cells.

The other areas having ciliary cells include the respiratory tract (cilia helps in the movement of mucus towards the pharynx), renal tubule (movement of urine). The ciliated cells are mainly a part of simple epithelium cells. Besides ciliary cells are also found in the central canal of the embryo’s spinal cord. Cilia are made up of microtubules having an arrangement of $9 + 2$ where $9$ are fused microtubular pairs present outside of the cylinder and $2$ unfused microtubules at the center of the cylinder.
