Hint:After independence in august 1947. on 25 October to 21 February 1952,the first general election was held & this election was the first election to the Lok Sabha. This election was conducted under the furnishing/provision of the Indian Constitution that was adopted on 26 November 1949. The Indian national congress (INC) won a victory by winning 364 of the 489 seats. & almost 45% of the total votes were polled.

India granted the right to vote to all of its citizens including women irrespective of gender, class or education. So in the first national election both men & women were given the right to vote. After independence in august 1947. The Indian Constitution was formed on 26 November 1949. The inner cabinet was headed by Jawaharlal lal Nehru & it consisted of 15 members which were belonging to the diverse communities & parties. At this time the India’s population was 36, 10, 88,090. All the Indian citizens who were over the age of 21 were eligible for voting. India had 17, 32, 00,000 voters. During the first elections each candidate was allotted a varied colored ballot box at the polling booth on which symbol & name of each candidate were already written,16,500 clerks were appointed for a six months contract to gather the electorate rolls & almost 380,000 reams of paper were used for printing the rolls. The election was held only in 68 phases due to the challenging & crucial climate. All the states except Himachal Pradesh & J&K voted in February- March 1952. Eighty six constituencies elected 2 members, 1 from general category & 1 from scheduled castes. There were three elected representatives in one constituency. These were present to fulfill the reservation granted to backward parts of the society by the Constitution of India.
