Hint: Cells can be connected in combination, parallel combination or a combination created by mixing of both. When connected in a series circuit, the electrons move in a particular path while in the parallel combination, they can travel in several branches ( they have options).
Complete answer:
A cell, we can also call it a battery, provides electrical energy. A battery more specifically is made up of two or more cells. In a circuit, cells have a role to provide the driving force that causes the current to flow. This can sometimes be referred to as potential difference, or voltage and can be represented by the symbol V because it is measured in volts.
If the cells are joined in a particular pattern which is one after the other, they are considered to be connected in a series combination. In other words when the components of the circuit are connected in series, they are connected end to end, in a way that the current which flows through each of them is the same but the voltage depends on the resistance they offer. Their voltages are added to give the total voltage, for example, if two 4V cells are connected in series combination, they provide 8V, while three cells in series combination provide 12 V.
In a circuit having a series combination, there is only one path for the current to flow. When cells are connected in a circuit in series, the value of the current is the same. On connecting the cells in series, the value voltage may be incremented. Series circuit consists of:-
A) Cells joined end to end such that the amount of current that flows through each cell in the circuit is the same.
B) A set of batteries are considered to be connected in series if the positive end of one cell is joined to the negative end of the next cell.
C) The overall electromotive force(emf) of the battery is the sum of every single cell connected in the circuit.
D) In this type of connection, the same amount of current is flowing through each individual component of the circuit.
Hence cells are joined in series, they have the same current.
Note:
Components when connected in a parallel circuit provide different pathways for current to flow. When cells are connected in this pattern, the total voltages do not change but the current does. For instance, when two 4 V cells are connected in parallel connection, their combination also provides a total voltage of 4V.S
