- The process of spermatogenesis requires a lower temperature (i.e., 2 - 2.5°C) than the body and hence testes are present outside the abdominal cavity. The pouch is known as the scrotum or scrotal sac.
- The lower temperature is required for the maintenance of sperm and the process of spermatogenesis i.e., the formation of sperm. The scrotum helps in maintaining the low temperature of the testes (2-2.5°C lower than the normal internal body temperature) necessary for spermatogenesis.
