Hint: For solving this equation we must have the knowledge of Algebra. For solving this equation, we have to collect all the n terms on the left side and the numeric values on the right side. After that we will collect n on one side and subtract 2 on both sides. And after that we will find the value of n.
Complete step by step answer:
The branch of mathematics which deals with symbols and the rules for manipulating those symbols are termed as Algebra. In elementary algebra those symbols are known as variables, whose values we have to find by solving the equation.
From the question we have
$n + 2 = - 14 - n$
For solving this equation, first of all we collect terms in n on the left side and on right side we will collect all the numeric values.
Now, adding n on both side from equation (i) we will get
\[n + n + 2 = - 14 - {n} + {n}\]
\[2n + 2 = - 14\]
Now, subtracting 2 on both side, we will get-
$2n + {2} - {2} = - 14 - 2$
$2n = - 16$
Dividing 2 on both side, we will get
$\dfrac{{{2}n}}{{{2}}} = \dfrac{{ - 16}}{2}\,$
$n = - 8$
Thus, the value of n is -8.
Hence, -8 is the solution of this equation.
Note: we can also solve this question by transposition method in which the sign of the number or variable changes as we transpose it from left side to right side and vice versa. If a number is in addition then when it is transposed to the other side it's sign becomes negative. Similarly it is applicable for multiplication and division.
