• Kharif crop- These crops are grown during the monsoon which lasts from June to November. Such crops require huge amounts of water and shorter day length. Rice is an example of a kharif crop.
• Rabi crops are the crops which are called the winter crops. They are sown in September and harvested in April or May. They require longer day length and optimum temperatures for flowering. The water requirement is also less as compared to that of the kharif crop. For Example- wheat.

Wheat is the staple food of our country. It requires cold temperature for germination and warm temperature for growth and flowering. The amount of water needed for this crop is also less. So the wheat grown in the monsoon season will not be able to grow as it will not get adequate temperature and the water quantity will also be more as compared to its requirement.
