Hint: Pollination is defined as the transfer of pollen grains from the male part of the plant to the female part of the plant leading to fertilization which ultimately leads to the development of the fruit.

Complete answer:
Pollination can be done by two major ways- self-pollination and cross-pollination. Self-pollination is said to take place when the pollen from the stamen of one flower pollinates the stigma of the same flower.

They are of four different types- autogamy, when the pollen from the male part is transferred to the female part of the same flower, geitonogamy, when the pollen from the male part is transferred to the female part of the different flower present on the same plant, cleistogamy, where self-pollination takes place before the flower is opened so that the pollen do not fall on any other flower and chasmogamy, where pollination takes place when the flower is opened. Examples of self-pollinated plants are- rice, potatoes, tomatoes.

Cross-pollination also known as allogamy is the type of pollination where the pollen from the stamen of one flower gets transferred to the stigma of another flower on a different plant but of the same species. Examples of cross-pollinating plants are-apples, grasses, maple trees.

Note: The process of pollination is an important one as it leads to fertilization, pollination can be hampered by several factors such as destruction of the habitat of the plants, use of certain pesticides that kills the plans, parasitic diseases as well as climate change.
