Hint: An individual capable of being divided into two equal parts (mirror images) by a line passing through the center. It is a type of symmetry that varies depending upon the different types of flowers.
Complete solution:
An organism which is capable of being divided into two equal parts (mirror images) by a line passing through the middle of an organism as other lines passing through the middle of the organism will not give mirror images of one another as same as monosymmetric, bilaterally symmetrical, and irregular flowers and opposite of actinomorphic, monosymmetric, radially symmetrical, and regular flowers are known as zygomorphic organisms.
Eg: snapdragon, orchid, and sweet pea.
The fundamental difference between actinomorphic and zygomorphic flower is-
1. Actinomorphic flower is a flower that is radially symmetrical and can be divided into two equal parts along any diameter.
2. Zygomorphic flower is a flower that is bilaterally symmetrical and can be bisected into two equal parts only in one plane.
Therefore flowers showing bilateral symmetry are known as “Zygomorphic flowers”.
Note:
Floral symmetry explains whether the flower can be bisected into mirror images. Some flowers are radially symmetrical and in contrast to other flowers, are bilaterally symmetrical. However, some flowers are also asymmetrical in this world. Flowers with radial symmetry can be bisected into identical halves along any diameter. Those flowers are called actinomorphic flowers. However, flowers with bilateral symmetry can be bisected into two identical halves in only one plane. Those flowers are called zygomorphic flowers.
