Hint: Vegetative propagation is a form of asexual reproduction which occurs in plants. In this a new plant growths from the fragment of the parent plant. It happens in a natural way but can also be induced artificially.

Complete answer:
Cutting of a plant piece is a method of vegetative propagation in plants. In this a piece of the stem or root of the parent plant or the source plant is placed in a suitable medium such as moist soil so that it can grow into a new plant. For this to happen suitable conditions are provided to the segment of the plant. This process is called striking.
If a stem cutting is used it produces new roots while if a root cutting is used it produces new stems. ;eaf cuttings can also be used for the process of veegtative propagation. The scions used in grafting are also called cuttings. This method of producing new plants from cutting is also called cloning which produces similar types of plants.
Advantages of vegetative propagation includes:
1. The produced offspring are clones of their parent plants.
2. If a plant has good traits, it can continue to pass down its advantageous genetic information to its offspring.
3. It allows commercial growers to clone a certain plant to ensure consistency throughout their crops.

Note: Many veegtative parts of the plants can be used for veegtative propagation by cutting. This includes leaf nodes, leaf veins. The leaf cutting method is used with succulents.
