Why should evolution not be equated with progress?

Evolution and progress should not be considered equal to each other as the progress is measured as individual progress that one makes in their lifetime. Whereas, evolution is the result of changes that were inherited generation after generation for millions of years to adapt to the changing surrounding. The progress is regarded as the physical or immunological progress that one person can make in his lifetime. It makes the person better for their adaptations to the surrounding. The change made during the progress may not be inheritable and would be only physical. It only benefits one individual.
In evolution, the result is not obtained as sudden as in the progress. In evolution, the genetic makeup of the whole population gets changed over time and the new generation formed is more adaptable to the surroundings than the previous one. In evolution, the change in the genes leads to the physical and the chemical changes in the body of the population. An example of evolution is the evolution of apes to modern human beings and an example of progress is an individual being immune to a disease.

Note:- The progress can be seen only in an individual but evolution affects the whole species of that particular genus. The progress can be noticed easily but evolution is a very slow process and gets noticed after a long period.
