He was born on \[13\] August\[1638\]. He was instrumental in single-handedly saving the Rathore dynasty in Marwar(Jodhpur) from Mughal invasions after the death of Jaswant Singh. Maharaja Jaswant Singh died in \[1679\] when one of his wives was pregnant. His wife gave birth to a male child who was later named ‘Ajit Singh.’ The Mughal emperor ‘Aurangzeb’ saw this as an opportunity to annex the Rajput state of Jodhpur. Aurangzeb also kidnapped the child Ajit Singh, but Durgadas along with some loyal followers wisely escaped Ajit Singh out of the Mughal kingdom. For, few years after this event, Marwar remained under the direct control of the Mughal governor. During this period, Durgadas actively opposed Mughal forces by the way of guerrilla warfare.
In \[1707\], Aurangzeb died and Durgadas took this as an opportunity and evicted Mughal forces from the Region. Ajit Singh was proclaimed as Maharaja of Marwar.
