When something happens to epidermist the epidermis starts regenerating, our body's immediate response is inflammation. White-blood cells flow out of local blood vessels into the wound, which could be a scrape, cut or burn. Chemicals like chemokines and cytokines are released by various immune cells - including T-cells, Langerhans cells and mast cells.these substances draw other cells, such as macrophages, to the area of regeneration. This leads to the release of nitric oxide and other substances that possess the initial stages of angiogenesis. Angiogenesis is the process of creation of new blood vessels to replace any that got damaged.

The skin heals itself even after considerable damage that has occurred due to the presence of stem cells in the dermis and cells in the stratum basale of the epidermis. If the epidermis is damaged it will repair itself, but the skin does not completely recover its natural appearance it leaves scars.
