Organic chemistry is one of the branches of chemistry which deals with the study of organic compounds containing covalently bonded carbon atoms. Organic chemistry deals with the structure of the chemical compound and its composition of the chemical compound. Organic chemistry helps to know the physical properties and chemical properties and the chemical reaction shown by these compounds.
There are five different categories in medicines which are related with organic chemistry.
(1) Analgesics: Analgesics are referred to as the medicines which are used to relieve the pain. The analgesics are also known as pain killers or pain relievers. In more words the analgesics are the medication which provide relief from the pain without letting you sleep and lose consciousness.
There are two types of analgesics used:
(a) Narcotics analgesics: It is used as CNS depression.
(b) Non-Narcotics Analgesics: Anti-inflammatory and antipyretic
(2) Tranquilizers: The tranquilizers are the drugs used for the treatment of anxiety, fear, tension, disturbance of mind, agitation.
(3) Antimicrobial: Antimicrobial are the drugs used to stop the growth of the microorganism.
The antimicrobial drugs are divided into three types.
(a) Antibiotic: An antibiotic is a type of antimicrobial substance which is active against bacteria.
(b)Antiseptics: The antiseptics are the substances which stop or slow down the growth of microorganisms.
(c) Disinfectant: Disinfectants are the chemical agents which are designed to destroy the microorganism.
(4) Antifertility Drugs: The antifertility drugs are used to prevent the unwanted pregnancy.
(5) For acidity: Antacids are used to treat acidity in the stomach. Antihistamines are the drugs used to stimulate the secretion of acid in the stomach.
