Sensory experiences can become scary or even painful and can lead to elevated anxiety and meltdowns. People with autism may have learning difficulties. Their abilities may grow unevenly. They may have difficulty talking, for instance, but they may be unusually good at art, music, math, or memory.
An individual on the autism spectrum can often overreact or underreact to two additional senses in addition to the widely known "5 senses" (taste, touch, hearing, sight and smell): the vestibular and proprioceptive senses. Such senses influence equilibrium, motor skills and body consciousness.
