On the night of 2nd and 3rd, December 1984 one of the world's worst industrial disasters took place in Madhya Pradesh India. Methyl isocyanide gas (MIC) leaked from the plant and made its way around the towns located near the plant. It would not be right to say that the victims of the Bhopal gas tragedy got justice. Thirty-six years later they are still waiting for justice to be served. They still do not have access to safe drinking water and better Health Care facilities. The state and Central Government have not done much to our better job facilities to the victimized families. The economic compensations made to the family were meager. The categorization of injuries was made using a severely flawed system of medical categorization and was largely based on misinformation provided by the company. Almost three fourth of the population affected due to the toxic gas leak is still waiting for employment promised to them. There is a huge gap in the data of the women widowed during the industrial disaster and the monetary compensation made to them is just namesake.
Note Many NGOs are working towards the upliftment of the victims of the Bhopal Gas tragedy. Several petitions have filed in the High Court which has now been moved to the Supreme Court of India to seek justice for the victims.
