Hint: Himalayas are divided into three major parts namely, the Himadri which is also called greater Himalaya, Himachal which is also called lesser Himalaya and the Shiwaliks which is also called outer Himalaya. These three divisions are separated by fault lines. Shiwalik range is the most recently formed range of the Himalayas. Duns are formed in the valleys of Shiwalik ranges. Dewars are also found in Shivalik ranges. Duns lie between the lesser Himalaya and Shiwalik range. Dehradun, Patlidun, kothri dun and pinjore in Himachal pradesh are the examples of Duns. A valley is called Dun or Doon.
The scrub forests of the shiwalik range have been removed a long time ago. The hills of this range are facing erosion. The forest cover is completely lacking in the southern slope of Shiwalik range. These slopes which are very anatomized by the seasonal rivers are known as Chos. The northern part of Punjab plain has been eroded very intensively by various river streams which are called Chos. Chos are also known as Khads.
Note: The Shiwalik range is a range of the outer Himalayas. Shiwalik range is also called as Churia hills. Its height is between 1500 mt to 2000 mt and its width is 10 mt to 15 km. It is extended till Arunachal Pradesh from the western side.
