Hint:-The respiration system comprises the breathing mechanism and the exchange of gases. The gaseous exchange happens in the alveoli through diffusion. It relies on the variations in pressure between tissues and blood, or ambient air and blood. The exchange of gases occurs at the alveolus surface.
Complete Answer:-The air taken in and out of lungs when we breathe differs in pressure. So basically, while there is a drop in air pressure, the alveolar spaces fall and the air reaches the lungs (inspiration) and the air is pulled from the lungs (expiration) when the pressure of the alveoli within surpasses the atmospheric pressure.
In inspiration, there will be a contraction of the muscles attached to the ribs on the outer side in the course of the cycle that draws out the ribs and causes widening of the chest cavity. Later, the diaphragm contracts travel inward, and extends the chest cavity, causing the abdominal muscles to contract. A partial vacuum is created that sucks air into the lungs and fills the enlarged alveoli by the expansion of the chest cavity.
In expiration, once gaseous exchange occurs in the lungs and air is expelled out the expiration phase is viewed. It is called expiration due to the expulsion of air. During this phase, the muscles attached to the ribs contract, the muscles of the diaphragm and abdomen relax, allowing the volume of the chest cavity to decrease and pressure of the lungs to rise, causing the air in the lungs to be squeezed out through the nose.
Note:- Internal respiration is called the gaseous exchange taking place in tissues. To release oxygen, the oxygen brought in the form of oxyhemoglobin is dissociated. To release carbon dioxide, this oxygen breaks the glucose down.
