Hint: Fertilization is defined as the fusion of two haploid gametes, the spermatozoa and the oocyte, also known as the egg, to form a zygote through the process of egg activation, and begin a series of mitotic divisions that leads to cell differentiation and embryo development. In the later stages of development, limbs and vital parts form and later a fully mature baby is delivered by the mother.

The difference between zygote and embryo is very significant and can be given as follows –
There is an etymological difference where zygote means to join whereas an embryo means something that grows.
The first product of fertilization is zygote which is unicellular in nature while an embryo is a multicellular structure formed through the development of zygote through morua, blastula a gastrula stage.
Formation of zygote is a result of fertilization while the formation of embryo is the result of a process known as embryogenesis.
Zygote undergoes cleavage which is a type of mitotic division to form an embryo whereas an embryo undergoes organogenesis to form various internal organs including the heart, brain and the spinal cord.
Stage after zygote is embryo and stage after embryo is fetus.
