Hint: Lord Curzon the Viceroy of india from 1898 to 1905, justified this partition on administrative efficiency accounts. While it's a fact that he struck at the roots of Bengal to weaken the nationalist movement, which was gaining momentum.

Complete solution: The Partition of Bengal was the decision of separating eastern parts of Bengal from the rest of Bengal. We are well aware of the fact that it was announced on 19 July 1905 by the Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon.
The reason given for the decision was that Bengal with a population of 78 million had become too big to be administered by a single provincial government. But the real motive was something else.
Moreover, he said that the Presidency of Bengal had become large and unwieldy. It consisted of Bengal, Bihar, Orissa, Chhota Nagpur and some other far off areas. It had an area of about 4,89,500 sq. km with a population of about 7.8 million. The Royal assent was given on 18th September, 1905 to the proposals of Lord Curzon for the division of Bengal. According to this, the new province was created by merging Assam and Chittagong with fifteen other districts of old Bengal. The area of the new province was about 2,74,540 sq. km. and the population was around thirty one million.

Note: Although Lord Curzon was the youngest viceroy India ever had, yet the decisions made by him were always highly appreciated by the crown, and that is why the crown was in full support of the Bengal Partition.
