He was born to a Hindu family in Nankana sahib, Pakistan. His father Kalyan Chand Das Bedi and his mother Mata Tripta were Khatri. His father worked as a patwari, that is, a local accountant .he maintained the accounts of crop revenue in the village of Talwandi.
Once, he went for a bath in a river and didn’t come back for three days. His family members were scared and hence assumed that he had drowned and died. He wrote about his teachings of equality, fraternity and virtue in a book name ‘Guru Granth Sahib’. At the time of this death, it is said that his body had vanished.
