Hint: Cerebrum is the main portion of the brain and consists of hemispheres on the right and left. Cerebral hemispheres have separate fissures, separating the brain into lobes. Each hemisphere has four lobes namely the frontal, parietal, temporal, and occipital.
Complete step by step answer:
The cerebrum is the center of the brain, 80-85 percent of the brain. A median fissure divides the brain into two hemispheres connected by a thick band of fibers called the corpus callosum. The outer part is the cortex, the inner part is the medulla. The roof is called the pallium, which is strongly folded to form gyri and sulci. Depressions are Sulci, and ridges are gyri. The cerebral ventrolateral walls are thick and are called corpora striata. The sulci divide the hemisphere into four lobes which are frontal, parietal, occipital, and temporal.
The cerebrum performs higher functions such as processing touch, vision, and hearing, as well as thinking, reasoning, feeling, learning, and fine movement regulation.
Additional information:
The cerebrum is further divided into four parts, which are
Frontal lobe: It is related to sections of voice, preparation, thinking, problem- solving, and movement.
Parietal lobe: Assist in movement, sensory processing, and orientation.
Occipital lobe: It has to do with visual perception.
Temporal lobe: This area is related to memory, auditory input, and speech perception and recognition.
The cerebrum contains,
- Sensory areas: To receive the messages
- Association areas: Incoming sensory information is introduced into those areas. It also forms a network between sensory and motor spaces.
- Motor areas: This region is responsible for voluntary muscle action.
Note:
Cerebral functions include,
- The cerebrum is responsible for thought, intellect, memory, and awareness.
- It is also in charge of understanding touch, hearing, and vision.
- Micturition center, defecation center, crying, laughing.
- The cerebrum regulates thoughts, anxiety, pain, temperature, and feelings.
