Hint:There consist various kinds of logic families including diode logic resistor transistor logic and many more. There are two kinds of input and output obtained in the logic gates which are high and low. NAND and NOR logic gates fall under the category of universal logic gates for a digital circuit system.
Complete answer:
There are three types of logic gates being primary gates, secondary gates and universal gates. The gates AND, OR and NOT fall under the category of primary gates, while the NAND and NOR gates fall under the category of universal gates. All of these gates are known as logic gates and they are the building foundation of all the digital circuits and systems. The schematic diagram of a NAND gate is shown below;
For a NAND gate, the output would be high if there is at least one low value in the input of the gate, and only for the case of two high inputs, will the gate show an output value of low.
The schematic diagram of NOR gate is given as below;
For a NOR gate, the output would be low if there is at least one high value in the input of the gate, and only for the case of two low inputs, will the gate show an output value of high.
Note: NAND and NOR gates come under the category of universal gates because all kinds of other logic gates can be formed using the logic gates of NAND only and NOR only as well. Other logic gates such as AND, OR, XOR, XAND, NOT all kinds of gates can be formed using only the NAND or the NOR logic gate only.
