The cockroach is a member of phylum Arthropoda and their body has a dark brown colour. The exoskeleton of the cockroach is made up of chitin. The body of cockroach is divided into three distinct parts or regions - Head, Thorax and Abdomen.
> The head of the cockroach is triangular in shape and it is made up of a fusion of six segments. It contains a pair of compound eyes and a pair of antennae in the front side. The mouth is present at the anterior side of the head. It contains a pair of mandibles and maxillae along with a labium. It is connected to the thorax with the help of a flexible neck or prothorax.
> The thorax of the cockroach is divided into three parts - prothorax, mesothorax and metathorax. Prothorax connects the head and thorax, which acts as the neck. A pair of wings arises from each mesothorax called tegmina and metathorax, respectively used for flight. Thorax contains a pair of legs in each segment total of three pairs of legs are present.
