Hint:-It's a characteristic that distinguishes ones that possess biological processes such as self sustaining, growing process from those that do not. It has various forms. Scientific study involved with it is called biology
Complete Answer:-Life has various definitions according to different views and perspectives of ones towards it. Most often used definition is that “ An organism that can maintain homeostasis, are composed of cells, have a life cycle, undergo metabolism, can grow , adapt to their environment, respond to stimuli, reproduce and evolve is said to possess life.”
It can also be described as a living being that shows certain attributes that include responsiveness, growth, metabolism, energy transformation, and reproduction.
Life-forms that are present on Earth today have evolved from common ancestors through the generation of hereditary variation and natural selection. Although some studies claim life to have begun 4.1 billion years ago, it can be traced to fossils dated to 3.5–3.7 billion years ago, which gravitationally converged and formed into a planet about 4.5 billion years ago. But this is life as a whole.
As far as is known, life exists only on earth, and is believed to have evolved from the big bang explosion.
An estimated 10–30 million different species are currently living in this sphere of life. Out of these more than 99.9 percent of species have been extinct.
All life is composed of cells of one of two types: prokaryotes (those that lack a proper nucleus) or eukaryotes (those with a nucleus). Even in one-celled organisms this distinction is very clear.
Note:- There are seven theories which suggests that the origin of life :
- Started with an electric spark.
- Molecules of life met on clay.
- Life began at deep-sea vents.
- Life had a chilly start.
- The answer lies in understanding DNA formation.
- Life had simple beginnings.
- Life was brought here from elsewhere in space
- The diversity of life on Earth is a result of the dynamic interplay between genetic opportunity, metabolic capability, environmental challenges, and symbiosis.
