Hint: A chemical reaction can be defined as the reaction in which the bonds are broken within the reactant molecules and new bonds are formed within product molecules and reaction which proceeds to form a new substance.
Complete step by step answer:
Displacement reaction can be defined as the reaction in which an atom or a set of atoms are displaced by another atom in a molecule is called displacement reaction. In the displacement reaction a more reactive element replaces a less reactive element from a compound. The general reaction of displacement reaction is shown as:
$A+B-C\to A-C+B$
In this equation A is more reactive than B.
Examples of displacement reaction can be shown as:
1.$2KI+C{{l}_{2}}\to 2KCl+{{I}_{2}}$
2.$CuS{{O}_{4}}+Zn\to ZnS{{O}_{4}}+Cu$
There are generally two types of displacement reactions, Single displacement reaction and double displacement reaction. Single displacement reaction is similar as displacement reaction while double displacement reaction can be defined as that reaction in which two atoms or a group of atoms switch places to form new compounds in this two displacements take place to complete the reaction. The general reaction of double displacement reaction is shown as:
$AB+CD\to AC+BD$
Example of double displacement reaction can be shown by:
$2KBr+BaC{{l}_{2}}\to 2KCl+BaB{{r}_{2}}$
Rather than this change in color takes place but no precipitate will forms in single displacement reaction while precipitate formation can be seen in case of double displacement reaction.
Note: The reactivity series of metals which is also known by the name activity series defines the arrangement of metals in the descending order of their reactivity’s. While studying replacement reactions we learn through this series that which atom is replaced.
