Hint: Crops grown in India during the rainy season are called kharif crops which are also known as monsoon crops like rice, paddy, and cotton plants.

Complete answer:
Kharif crops are grown during the month of May when it is rainy season in the southern
region and in the month of June in northern parts of India. Kharif crops mainly depend on
the rainfall pattern for their growth. It is therefore very important to consider the timing
and quantity of rainwater that would be available for growing the Kharif crops with good
yield. Example rice, jowar, bajra, paddy, maize, etc.

Additional Information:
> Depending on the season during which the crops are grown in India, crops are
classified into 3 categories:
- Kharif crops are the crops that are sown during monsoon season and
harvested post-monsoon season. These crops require a lot of water for their
growth and thus are grown in fields with standing water. Flowering in Kharif
crops require shorter day lengths. Example rice, maize, pulses, etc.
- Rabi crops also known as winter crops are the crops sown during the winter
season and are harvested during the summer season. Rabi crops require a
warm climate for seed germination and cold climate for its growth. As these
crops are grown in dry season timely irrigation is required to grow these
crops. Flowering requires longer day length in Rabi crops. Example Wheat,
potato, tomato, onion, etc.
- Zaid crops are the crops that are sown and harvested during the summer
season that is between Rabi and Kharif seasons. Example season fruit, fodder
crops, and vegetables.

Note: Apart from climatic conditions a lot of factors play a major role in crop growth like
humidity, soil fertility, the salinity of the soil, the water content in the soil, water supply for
growth, wind, temperature, rainfall, etc. Total rainfall can be measured using an instrument
known as a Rain gauge. Thus, before farming a lot of research and understanding regarding
the effects of different conditions on the growth of different crops is very much needed to
have a high yield from farming.
