We already know about communicable diseases. In these kinds of diseases, a pathogen enters our body and starts replicating and after sometime various symptoms start to occur in our body leading to the diagnoses of the disease.
Let us know consider each of these disease and verify if any vaccine has ever come to their rescue –
Whooping cough – It is a bacterial disease caused by Bordetella pertussis. It’s various symptoms include – whooping sound, face becomes red and may even lead to death. The vaccine used for its rescue is DPT i.e. Diphtheria pertussis tetanus.
Measles – It is caused by Rubeola virus. In this disorder reddish vesicles or rashes appear on the neck first and then it spreads over the body. It is cured by MMR i.e. Measles mumps and rubella vaccine.
Polio – It is also known as Poliomyelitis Infantile Disease. It is caused by Enterovirus or the polio virus. This virus is transmitted through faecal oral route, enters into blood and reaches the nervous system where it affects cerebrum and pons causing stiffness in the neck which leads to paralysis. For polio two vaccines are used: Oral polio vaccine (OPV) and Injectable polio vaccine (IPV).
From the above discussion, it came to our notice that vaccines do save our lives from communicable diseases through vaccination.
