Hint: The important aim of ISRO is to develop space technology in India and to use its application in various national tasks. The Indian space programme was formed by the planning of Vikram Sarabhai. This is why he is considered as the father of the Indian space programme.

Complete step by step answer:
Space research in India was begun in 1948 as a Physics Research Institute at Ahmedabad. The effort made an encouragement when the government of India organised Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR) in 1962. This was under the leadership of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. Thumba Rocket Launching Station was launched by this committee and there it was started space research on upper levels of atmosphere. Indian Committee for Space Research was renamed an Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969. ISRO has been at the forefront of developments in space technology since its day of inception.
ISRO successfully demonstrated its unique and cost-effective developments and now it is placed among the elite space agencies in the world for a long time. The first Indian satellite was built by the ISRO named Aryabhata. On April 19, 1975, this was launched with the help of the Soviet Union. The year 1980 was marked by the launch of Rohini. This was the first satellite to be successfully reached in orbit by SLV-3. SLV-3 is an Indian produced launch vehicle. After that with more hard work, two other rockets were also developed by ISRO. They are PSLV and GSLV. These are the major facts about the research development in space technology in India.

Note: Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle which is abbreviated as PSLV, was for placing satellites into polar orbits. And the other one was Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle which is abbreviated as GSLV. This was for keeping satellites into geostationary orbits. Both the rockets have successfully made so many earth observation and communication satellites for India as well as for other nations too.
