Rust is actually a mixture of different oxides of iron, but the oxide of Fe (III) is an important part of that. The rusting of iron is a good example of the process of corrosion. Rusting is the common term for corrosion of iron and its alloys like steel. Many other metals undergo similar oxidation, but the resulting oxides aren't commonly called rust.
