Hint :Proteins are a primary constituent of living things and one of the chief classes of molecules studied in biochemistry. Proteins provide most of the molecular machinery of cells. Many are enzymes or subunits of enzymes. Other proteins play structural or mechanical roles, such as those that form the struts and joints of the cytoskeleton.
Complete Step By Step Answer:
There are 20 different amino acids which make up proteins. Each amino acid consists of a central carbon. The central carbon is bonded to an amine group ( $ N{H_2} $ ), a carboxyl group ( $ COOH $ ), a hydrogen atom and a $ R $ group.
Amino acids can be linked together when the amine group of one amino acid is bonded to the carboxyl group of a different amino acid. The $ COOH $ donates a $ OH $ group and the $ N{H_2} $ donates a $ H $ . The $ OH $ and $ H $ come together to form a water molecule, so this process is called dehydration synthesis - water is removed to form something new. The bond which holds the amino acids together is called a polypeptide.
Note :
Each protein is linear polymers built of amino acids. Proteins are also nutrient sources for organisms that do not produce their own energy from sunlight and/or are unable to fix nitrogen. Proteins can interact with one another and with others molecules to form complexes. Our body needs dietary protein to supply amino acids for the growth & maintenance of cells. Found in both plant & animal-based foods both can be rich sources of protein. Science based. Non-Profit Organization.
