i.e. Mass of one molecule of ${N_2}$ gas is:
molecular mass of ${N_2} = 14 \times 2 = 28amu$

1. ${N_2}$ is a colourless odourless gas. Nitrogen is important to the chemical industry. It is used to make fertilisers, nitric acid, nylon, dyes and explosives. To make these products, nitrogen must first be reacted with hydrogen to produce ammonia.
2. The atomic number of nitrogen is $7$. It is a neutral atom that has the same number of electrons and protons. Thus, the electronic configuration of nitrogen will include seven electrons which are placed into the appropriate $s$ and $p$ orbitals in the ground state (i.e. the lowest state of energy).
