(a) BT brinjal is a type of genetically modified plant whose DNA has been altered by genetic modification to add a new plant feature that does not exist naturally in the genus. Therefore, this allows the plant to become pest-resistant.
(b) Advantages-
i) It increases productivity and boosts income for farmers. Indian farmers often practise conventional seeding and cultivation methods, requiring practical measures to increase their yield. Therefore, it is one of the steps to increase the output of farms.
ii) This eliminates the use during cultivation of chemicals and insecticides, which will be excellent measures to boost the food supplies.
iii) Since it displays significantly increased yields, it will feed an increasingly growing population.
c) Harmful effects-
i) Creation places the destruction of the environment and habitats at high risk because the "better" characteristics created by engineering genes will benefit one organism. Therefore, the normal mechanism of gene transfer will inevitably interrupt it.
ii) It raises the cost of production and is more likely to sell agriculture that runs on unethical gains.
iii) Not only growers, but also commerce and the climate are affected by transgenic crops.
