Hint: As we know that sugar is made from sugar cane, we cannot use raw sugar without cleaning off impurities as the sugar canes are directly taken to sugar mills. We can use sugar in four forms as follows
1. Glucose
2. Fructose
3. Sucrose
4. Lactose
Complete step by step answer
The process of manufacturing of sugar from sugar cane follow several steps:
We will see one by one.
1. Harvesting of sugarcane:It takes one year to grow sugar cane, then it is harvested. Harvesting of sugar cane is done by machine. Sugar beets are also harvested by the similar process of growing.
2. Formation of raw sugar: When harvested sugar cane or sugar beets are transferred to sugar mills, first of all, sugar cane or sugar beets undergo the cleaning process by washing, sanitization. The cleaning is done by machine such as water jets which are used to wash sugar cane.
When washing is done then, we transfer sugarcane to machines which extract juice from sugar cane. When juice forms a very thick layer, it crystallizes by cooling. Now, this crystallization of juice forms raw sugar.
3. Refining of raw sugar: Now, when raw sugar is made then sent to the refinery to refine impurities such as non-sugar particles, colour etc.
When raw sugar is refined, now it is ready to sell.
Sugar is of four types: granulated sugar, brown sugar, inverted sugar or liquid sugar, all types of sugar are ready to sell.
Note:
Sugar is a carbohydrate and is represented by formula \[{{\rm{C}}_{{\rm{12}}}}{{\rm{H}}_{{\rm{22}}}}{{\rm{O}}_{{\rm{11}}}}\]. It is a disaccharide which is composed of two monosaccharides.
