He was initially buried in Frascati Cathedral near Rome, where his brother Henry Benedict Stuart was bishop at the time. Charles' mother is likewise buried at the Basilica of St. Peter.

In July 1745, Bonnie Prince Charlie arrived in Scotland to join the second Jacobite insurrection. He travelled to Glenfinnan and appealed to the Scots to join him in his uprising. He enlisted the help of a few Scottish clans and eventually had a force of around 4000 warriors.
