Hint: The ovaries, uterine tubes, uterus, vagina, and the external genitalia are the major constituents of the female reproductive system. In human females, the primary sex organ is the ovary.
Complete step by step answer: 1.Primary oocytes are formed from oogonia by the process of mitosis and gets surrounded by the primary follicles. These primary follicles are granulosa cells. Secondary follicles are formed when more layers of granulosa cells cover the primary follicles. The secondary follicles when changed into tertiary follicles are called Graafian follicles.
2.An oocyte is the major component of a follicle. It is covered by a homogenous membrane called the zona pellucida.
3.When ovulation is complete, many of the follicular cells remain in the collapsed follicle. The cavity or the antrum of the collapsed follicle is filled with a partially clotted fluid. A yellow pigment called lutein fills when the follicular cells are enlarged. Such a follicle is referred to as the corpus luteum. A significant amount of progesterone and estradiol hormone is secreted from the corpus luteum. The Relaxin hormone is also secreted.
4.About four lakh follicles are present in the two ovaries of a normal young adult woman. Out of these, many ovarian follicles undergo degeneration during the primary oocyte stage. Follicular atresia is the degenerative process of follicles. The follicles undergoing such degeneration are referred to as atretic follicles.
Thus, Atretic follicle is A) which are not developed completely and degenerate.
Note: 1.Thus, the main function of the ovaries is to produce ova and release female sex hormones.
2.The upper portion of the Fallopian tube is the place where the fertilization of the ovum takes place.
