Hint:-Glycolysis is one of the respiratory pathway, where glucose is converted to pyruvic acid, and in this process, ATP is utilized and in some steps, ATP is generated, this pathway generally in the cytoplasm of the cells this is because the enzymes required for glycolysis are present in the cytoplasm.
Complete answer:
1. In glycolysis, the first two steps do not generate any ATP, instead, they utilize them.
2. In the beginning, the glucose is converted to the glucose 6 phosphate and further, it is converted to fructose 6 phosphate, wherein this step ATP is utilized.
3. Then after the molecule fructose 6 phosphate is split into two other molecules such as DHAP, the other one is glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate.
4. This glyceraldehyde 3 phosphate is converted to 1,3 bisphosphoglycerate and in this step, ATP is generated and this reaction is called substrate-level phosphorylation.
5. In this conversion, the higher energy molecule is converted to a lower energy molecule so that the energy is released, and this released is utilized for the phosphorylation where the ADP is converted into ATP, as this occurs in substrate-level this is called as substrate-level
phosphorylation.
6. In glycolysis, a total of 2 substrate phosphorylations occur and they generate ATP.
7. The above-given assertion is correct as that conversion results in the production of energy.
8. And the reason is also correct because the energy which is producing is in the form of ATP. And this both assertion and reason are correct, and the reason is explanatory to the assertion.
So, the correct option is A.
Note:- ATP full form is adenosine triphosphate and it is the energy-driven molecule, where the energy released in the formed by the various metabolic process are stored in the form of ATP, and this molecule is useful for various functions such as muscle contraction, nerve impulse transmission, etc.
