In order to keep our waste in check, we must undertake the practice of the three R’s of waste management- Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.
Reducing the waste means simply generating less waste. It’s the greatest technique to maintain the cleanliness of our environment; therefore it is R number one. By decreasing the amount of waste generated, the problem is tackled within the source itself. Creating a minimal amount of waste would mean having to dispose of less amount of waste. Some examples of Reducing are saying no to plastic; bring your own bags while going shopping etc.
The second R is Reuse. Reusing means to put already existing things at home to another use. Reusing items helps decrease one's trash footprint. Some ways you can reuse are making cloth bags out of old clothes, using old plastic bottles as bird feeders etc.
Finally, the third R is Recycle. Recycling is altering waste items into different products, and in turn dodging using more and more resources. Some examples of Recycling are newspapers being used for paper bags and papier mache.

Note: There is a fourth R to waste management, it is Refuse. This is specifically with respect to refusing to use products harmful for the environment altogether. This R points towards the refusal of straws, disposable cups, plastic items, etc.
