Before coming to our question let’s see what are monomers;
Monomers are the building blocks of polymers. They are small molecules that can be joined together in a repeating fashion to form more complex molecules known as polymers. For example;
Vinyl chloride polymerises to form polyvinyl chloride commonly known as PVC.
Now, coming to our question;
The monomers of proteins are amino acids. These monomers are linked together to form polypeptide chains. We can say that amino acids are the building blocks of proteins.
Each amino acid consist of an acidic carboxyl group $\left( { - COOH} \right)$, a basic amino group $\left( { - N{H_2}} \right)$ and an organic R group which is unique to each amino acid. These amino acids differ from each other in the R group. There are nine essential amino acids that our body can’t produce.
