Hint: An ecosystem is the geographical area where the living organisms interact with its surrounding. The surrounding includes both biotic and abiotic components. The abiotic components include climate, landscape etc.
Complete answer:
The ecosystem is a complex system which comprises different levels viz- ecosystem, population, biome, community, population. Let us discuss the levels of organisation starting from the most inclusive to the least inclusive.
1) The most inclusive system of organisation is the biosphere. It is the part of the earth crust which has all the components which supports life.
2) Ecosystem -It comprises both biotic and abiotic components. In an ecosystem , the biotic and non-biotic components are interdependent on each other. The abiotic components like air, water, weather largely affect the living components.
3) The next level of organisation is the community. The community can be defined as all the living components occupying definite areas in an ecosystem. These organisms interact, live in a common environment and are interdependent on each other.
4)The next level of organisation is the population. It is defined as all the members of a single species living together in a definite geographical area.
5) The least inclusive organisation level is the species or an organism. It can be both unicellular or multicellular. These organisms possess all the characteristics required for sustaining life.
Note: All organisms depend on a healthy ecosystem for survival. A healthy ecosystem provides purified air which is needed for breathing, nutrients and food, climate, water which are essential for welfare and survival. Any changes in ecosystem will affect the life of organisms and can even lead to their extinction.
