The advancing monsoon occurs in the month of June, July, August and September. Advancing monsoon brings a major change in the weather conditions. At the beginning of the monsoon, Western Ghats get very heavy rainfall. North east part of India gets the maximum amount of rainfall because of the advancing monsoon. When the advancing monsoon hits India, at first rainfall in Malabar coast of Kerala takes place and then it moves towards the Konkan coast. After this, rainfall in Gujarat and rajasthan takes place and then monsoon enters Delhi. The monsoon which enters India from the Bay of Bengal helps in the rainfall firstly in North east India and Bengal. Rainfall takes place in the eastern Himalayas when it hits the eastern Himalayas. Then it moves towards the gangetic Plains and reaches the North west part of India.
The retreating monsoon occurs in the month of October and November. Western disturbances are the main reason for the retreating monsoon. The maximum amount of rainfall because of retreating monsoon takes place in the coast of Tamil Nadu.
Note: Sometimes rainfall increases at the arrival of monsoon. This phenomenon is known as the bust of the monsoon. El-Nino & LA-Nina effects are also related to the monsoons.
