Hint: A harmonic is any member of the harmonic series. The term is used in various disciplines, including music, physics, acoustics, electronic power transmission, radio technology, and other fields. it's typically applied to repeating signals, like sinusoidal waves.
Complete answer:
There are two sorts of harmonics and that they are odd harmonics and even harmonics. Odd numbers like 3, 5, 7, etc…. are the odd harmonics while even numbers like 2, 4, 6, etc…. are the even harmonics. But harmonic no 1 is employed because the fundamental component of the periodic wave while harmonic number 0 is employed for either representing the constant or the DC component of the waveform.
Harmonics are often best described because the shape or characteristics of a voltage or current waveform relative to its fundamental . These current harmonics distort the voltage waveform and make distortion within the power grid which may cause many problems.
Harmonics are the results of nonlinear loads that convert AC line voltage to DC. Harmonics flow into the electrical system due to nonlinear electronic switching devices, like variable frequency drives (VFDs), computer power supplies and energy-efficient lighting.
Note: Active harmonic filters cancel harmonics by dynamically injecting inverted (180-deg out of phase) current into the ac line, improving electrical system stability.Generally, a lively harmonic filter is installed on the ac lines in parallel to the hundreds that produce the offending harmonics.
