Hint: There are three types of rocks namely igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks and metamorphic rocks. Igneous rocks are formed when molten lava cools and solidifies. Sedimentary rocks are formed when particles settle out of any erosional agent like water and air and precipitation of minerals. Metamorphic rocks are formed by the effect of excessive pressure and heat on existing rocks. These are the three major types of the rocks.

Complete Answer: Minerals may occur in the igneous and metamorphic rocks in their cracks, faults or joints. The larger occurrences of minerals in these rocks are known as Lodes and the smaller ones are known as Veins. Many times, these rocks are formed when minerals in liquid or sometimes in gaseous states are forced upwards the surface of the earth through cavities. The minerals in igneous rocks are formed from the magma after the cristallisation temperature is reached. In metamorphic rocks, minerals are altered or recrystallised from the existing rock minerals because of the effect of heat and temperature. This happens because all rocks turn into metamorphic rocks under great heat and pressure. The basic source of all the minerals is the hot magma which is found in the interior of the earth.

Note: Feldspar, Quartz, Pyroxene, Amphibole, Mica and olivine are some examples of the minerals. Coal is one of the most essential and important minerals that is used in the smelting of iron and the generation of thermal power. Minerals can be divided into two parts namely metallic minerals and non metallic minerals.
