1. WEST BENGAL:- Is the largest rice producing state of which almost half of the land is cultivated for rice production, in 2016 the states produced about 15.75 millions tonnes of rice over 5.46 millions hectare cultivated area.
2. UTTAR PRADESH:- 2nd largest rice producing state of India with almost 5.86 million hectare land under rice cultivation producing about 12.5 millions tonnes of rice.
3. PANJAB:-the 3rd largest rice producing state of India with almost2.97 millions hectare land under rice cultivation producing about 11.82 million tonnes of rice.
5. ODISHA:- Rice producing state of India with almost 3.94 million hectare land under cultivation producing about 5.87 million tonnes of rice.
6. ASSAM:-rice producing state of India with almost 2.46 million hectare land under cultivation producing about 5.14 million tonnes of rice.
Rice is the most important cereal food crop of India, and the area under rice crop was 30.81 million/hectare .It occupies about $23.3\%$ of the gross cropped area of the country and plays an important role in national food grain supply.

Thus approximately $23.3\%$ cultivated land used for growing rice.
