Behind any motion, force acts on it. According to Newton’s First laws of motion – Any object at rest or any stationary object does not move unless and until any force acts on it to start or to move the object. Similarly, an object remains in motion with the same speed and in the same direction until an external force acts on it. Where an external force can change the speed and change the direction and it may also stop the object’s motion.

Hence, Newton’s first law of motion is also known as “the law of Inertia”.
