Amoeba digests their food in the food vacuole. An Amoeba is an organism that consists of an ability to alter its shape by extending and retracting its pseudopods. Some of the Amoeba is placed under the class Sarcodina which constitutes single-celled organisms that possess pseudopods and are motile with the help of protoplasmic flow. Pseudopods are the outgrowth of the cell membrane formed by the action of actin microfilaments that pushed the plasma membrane around the cell. The experience of the amoeba constituting pseudopods makes it distinguished among other groups of amoebae. Different species of amoeba consist of different food sources as some of them are creditors and live by consuming bacteria while others are protists. Other species contribute towards decomposition and eat dead organic materials. Amoeba ingests the food by the process of phagocytosis and engulfs the particles of the food material.
Some species of amoeba contain contractile vacuole which helps them to regulate osmotic pressure that expels the excess water out of the cell. The contractile vacuole is essential for amoeba because of the lower concentration of solutes in freshwater than the internal fluids. This allows the water to transfer across the cell membrane under the hypertonic condition and the cell would fill with excess water and can burst eventually.

An Amoeba does not have a fixed body shape and creates extensions that assist them in locomotion. Some species of amoeba cause fowleri amoebas which enters the nose and the symptoms appear after 3-7 days which creates an infection.
